COURSE DESCRIPTION

Undertake a higher degree by research degree in education at Flinders and you will develop the skills and expertise to shape policy and practice and make a genuine difference in the diverse field of education, by developing a deep understanding of a specific area in the field. You will join researchers who work closely with industry to create new knowledge and develop innovative solutions to challenges across the education landscape.

Your career

This PhD provides opportunities to work as leaders in schools, preschools and the educational sector. PhD graduates in Education become researchers as part of academia or in industry. As an Education Consultant you can work in Government departments such as Departments for Education, in the Independent Schools sector in urban and regional settings, and in indigenous education.

REQUIREMENTS

To be accepted for enrolment in a Doctor of Philosophy candidature, an applicant must:

Have at least one of the following Australian qualifications (which must include studies relevant to the proposed field of research), or the equivalent qualification as approved by the relevant authorized delegate:

  • A Bachelors degree with Honours class 1 or 2A
  • A Graduate Diploma or Masters degree by coursework with a research component of at least 18 units, with an average grade of Distinction or better in the research component
  • A Masters by Research degree

English language requirements

IELTS (Academic): 6.5 Overall with 6.0 Speaking, 6.5 Writing, 6.0 Reading, 6.0 Listening; TOEFL iBT: 80 Overall with 18 Speaking, 22 Writing, 18 Reading, 18 Listening; Pearson PTE Academic: 58 Overall with 58 Speaking, 50 Writing, 50 Reading, 50 Listening; Cambridge C1 Advanced: 176 Overall with 169 Speaking, 169 Writing, 169 Reading, 169 Listening; Duolingo (Up to and including Semester 2, 2024): Overall 105-110
