COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides its graduates with the necessary knowledge and skills to explain and apply appropriate information technology (IT) methodologies to help an individual or organisation achieve its goals and objectives.
You’ll also learn to appreciate the scientific foundations on which IT is built, and to anticipate the changing direction of IT and evaluate and communicate the effectiveness of new technologies.
The Master of IT offers two specialisations to provide in-depth knowledge of cutting-edge topics in machine learning, natural language processing, cloud computing, the internet of things and high-performance computing.

This course has a strong emphasis on the application of contemporary and emerging technologies, including cloud and high-performance computing, agile web development and software project design and management. You’ll develop computer programs in a number of contemporary scripting and programming languages.

Course structure

Postgraduate coursework degrees and combined (coursework and research) degrees comprise a number of units.

SPECIALISATION

Artificial Intelligence

The Artificial intelligence specialisation will equip you with the skills and knowledge to understand, evaluate, design, and implement artificial intelligence systems.
Working alongside inspiring researchers and industry, you’ll get hands-on practice in a variety of contemporary artificial intelligence techniques, from machine learning and deep learning to natural language processing and adaptive systems that can learn from, and adapt to, a changing and unknown environment.
You will develop in-demand skills and leadership qualities for an exciting career in AI.

Software Systems

The Software Systems specialisation provides its graduates with the necessary knowledge and skills to design and construct software systems focussing on the effective use of modern software deployment frameworks including cloud, internet of things and high-performance computing platforms.

The Master of Information Technology is ideal if you wish to change direction or expand your skillset to pursue a career in information technology. There is a great demand for information technology specialists across a wide range of industries. Career opportunities exist in internet/web development, technology and network management, communications, programming, IT consulting, ecommerce, systems analyst, multimedia, software development and web security.

REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have—(a) a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA; and(b) the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 65 per cent; and(c) completed Mathematics Methods ATAR, or equivalent, as recognised by UWA.

English language requirements:

TOEFL (paper-based): 570 with a Test of Written English (TWE) of no less than 4.5

IBT TOEFL (Internet-based test score): 82 with 22 for writing, 20 for speaking, 20 for listening, and 18 for reading

IELTS (Academic): 6.5 (no band lower than 6.0)

Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English: C pass

Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English: B grade

Pearson Test of English (PTE) (Academic): Overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 64 in the Reading and Writing sections, 59 in the Speaking section and 54 in the Listening section
