COURSE DESCRIPTION
The University of New England offers a flexible approach to the study of law. UNE boasts one of Australia’s largest law schools outside a capital city, as well as being an early adopter of innovative technology in the delivery of its law programs.
Studying law in conjunction with another discipline gives you the potential to take an interdisciplinary approach in both your studies and in your future employment.
A graduate of a Law and Business double degree will take both a legal and commercial approach to situations. This degree provides students with an understanding of how law impacts and regulates the world of business e.g. in the areas of professional accounting, human resource management and agribusiness, among others.
Students who complete the Honours Pathway may be awarded the degree of Bachelor of Laws with Honours. To be admitted to the Honours stream, candidates must have completed 72 credit points of law units at UNE with a grade point average (GPA) of 5.5 or better.
Course Aims
1. understanding and knowledge of Australian law and awareness of indigenous, international and theoretical perspectives;
2. competence in using legal research and analytical skills that equip them to work in the legal profession or in a broad range of law related occupations;
3. the ability to take a strategic approach to problem solving by applying critical and innovative thinking to complex legal issues and situations;
4. competence in oral and written communication;
5. the ability to work independently and in groups; and
6. professional judgement and knowledge of the ethical responsibilities associated with having completed a law degree.
7. LLB with Honours students:
a comprehensive understanding of theoretical, comparative or interdisciplinary research to examine law’s effect on society and the effectiveness of the Australian Legal System.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
BBus component: demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of business and management theory and processes and their application to real-world business contexts, including an opportunity to complete a capstone experience, and to promote sustainable business in a globalised economy;
utilise cognitive and communication skills, tools and digital technologies to communicate appropriately and persuasively with a range of stakeholders;
apply critical and creative thinking to analyse complex real-world business problems and synthesise materials from a variety of sources in identifying solutions;
identify relevant information drawn from a range of sources in order to analyse data and complex business-related issues;
evaluate and demonstrate judgement in formulating responses to complex, social, cultural and ethical issues;
REQUIREMENTS
For direct admission into undergraduate courses offered by UNE you must have completed an educational qualification considered to be at least equivalent to completion of Year 12 in Australia. Entry requirements vary from country to country
Assumed knowledge is any two units of English, any two units of Mathematics.
An IELTS (Academic) overall score of at least 6.5, with a minimum sub-band of 6.5 for writing and no other sub-band less than 6.0, or TOEFL IBT score of 91 with no less than 22 in writing and no less than 20 in listening, speaking and reading.
EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION
The University of New England was originally formed in 1938 as the New England University College, a College of the University of Sydney. It became fully independent in 1954. The university is located on several sites in Armidale, NSW. All the programs are offered via the four faculties: Arts; Economics, Business and Law; Education, Health and Professional Studies; and The Sciences; these faculties incorporate 18 teaching schools. Research is offered in the areas of rural science, agricultural economics, geology, educational administration, linguistics, archaeology, etc.
