COURSE DESCRIPTION

This Honours program will provide a fourth year of study for students who have completed the Bachelor of Film and Screen Media Production (1284), or an equivalent undergraduate program. It is a full-time or part-time program that comprises a significant independent film or screen media project to be completed under formal supervision. This project is complemented by associated methodological and theoretical courses and an appropriate elective course to be chosen with the supervisor’s approval.

As well as the opportunity for career and skill advancement, this Honours program creates a pathway for Film students to move into research and higher degree studies – Master of Visual Arts (5052), Doctor of Visual Arts (6009) or Doctor of Philosophy (6001).

If you are an International student on a student visa, you must ensure that you enrol in a way that will allow you to complete your enrolment within the expected program duration as stated on your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).

MY CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates from the Bachelor of Film and Screen Media Production (Honours) program will be able to find high-level employment within the film and television and/or digital media professions or continue to research in the area by undertaking a research higher degree.

REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for admission to this Honours program, consideration will be given to the following criteria:

  • have achieved a grade point average of at least 5.0 over the best 9 studio courses in their second and third years of their undergraduate degree
  • have negotiated up to two supervisors who are available and willing to facilitate the student’s requirements
  • prospective students must confirm prior to application that their chosen project can be conducted within the appropriate concentration area, that is, check the availability of resources, supervision etc.
  • submit a proposal outlining the nature of the Research Project they wish to undertake
  • applicants may be required to attend a selection interview and present a current folio of their most outstanding work.

English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this program are as follows: A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 6.0; OR a minimum score of 575 on TOEFL; OR an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no sub-score less than 19); OR no score less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by ISLPR Language Services only); OR a minimum overall score of 176 (no score less than 169) on C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English) or C2 Proficiency (formerly Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English); OR an overall score of 58 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 50.
