COURSE DESCRIPTION

In this degree, you will develop an in-depth understanding of educational problem-solving in the changing social, cultural and political contexts of education. Designed to meet the needs and aspirations of those working in a broad range of educational settings, you will follow your own unique pathway of research-based study based on an area of professional interest.

You will learn to integrate contemporary research with your professional interests and develop and enhance your skills in the critical analysis of educational issues and practice. You will also expand your understanding of the nature of educational work and its social and cultural significance. As a graduate, you will be prepared for specialised practice in teaching and managerial careers in education.

You will be prepared for leadership and management positions in educational institutions and systems, and other organisations that run educational programs. You will also be prepared for working in research, policymaking and new information technologies.

REQUIREMENTS

The formal admission requirements for this program are as follows:

  • a recognised bachelor degree with a suitable class of research honours (not less than an upper second) or its equivalent as determined by the Dean, Griffith Graduate Research School and professional engagement pertinent to the degree over a period totalling not less than three years.

The minimum English Language proficiency requirements for applicants to Higher Degree Research (HDR) programs are as follows: A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on the IELTS (Academic) with no band score less than 6.0; OR a minimum score of 575 on the paper-based TOEFL including a score of no less than 5.0 on the TWE; OR a score of 79 on the internet-based (iBT) TOEFL with no sub-score less than 19; OR a score of no less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by ISLPR Language Services only); OR a minimum overall score of 176 (no score less than 169) on C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English) or C2 Proficiency (formerly Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English); OR an overall score of 58 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 50.
