COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Graduate Certificate in Autism is an online course that has been designed to provide autistic and neurodivergent individuals, professionals and parents with the knowledge and skills required to support the successful learning, employment and self-determination of autistic and neurodivergent individuals in community, school, home and employment settings.
This course takes a human rights perspective to creating neurodiversity affirming environments, supports and programs.
In this degree, you will examine the key principles of diagnosis and assessment and reflect on how the history of autism has led to current beliefs and models of practice for autistic and neurodivergent individuals and their families.
Throughout this degree, you will learn to conduct environmental assessments and implement key strategies to create neurodiversity affirming environments and practices that support the social emotional learning, wellbeing and self-determination of autistic and neurodivergent individuals across the lifespan.
You will review the current research on evidence-based practice and will be guided in utilising this research to develop and implement programs that support autistic and neurodivergent individuals to gain skills, demonstrate self-determination and achieve their goals.
The graduate certificate will provide an opportunity to explore the latest research and knowledge in relevant areas such as social emotional learning, communication, transitions, use of technology, and self-determination of autistic individuals.
On completion you may progress into the Master of Autism if you are interested in further study, with credit for all of the subjects (24 credit points) completed in the graduate certificate.
