COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Diploma of Business Information Systems has been designed as a foundation qualification which equips students with the fundamentals of information systems in business enterprises in a practical manner. It allows students the opportunity to progress to further study and gain up to 1-year credit to study the Bachelor of Business Information Systems at APIC, or a variety of other bachelor degree programs. Students who opt to pursue an employment opportunity and not continue their tertiary studies will be better prepared with excellent knowledge and perspectives on business and information systems to assist them to find gainful employment in a range of fields and commence a rewarding career.

Course Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
Graduates of a diploma will have technical and theoretical knowledge and concepts, with depth in some areas within a field of work and learning.
Skills
Graduates of the Diploma of Business Information Systems will have:
- Cognitive and communication skills to identify, analyse, synthesise and act on information from a range of sources
- Cognitive, technical and communication skills to analyse, plan, design, and evaluate approaches to unpredictable problems and/or management requirements
- Specialist technical and creative skills to express ideas and perspectives
- Communication skills to transfer knowledge and specialised skills to others and demonstrate an understanding of knowledge.
Application of knowledge and skills
Graduates of the Diploma of Business Information Systems will demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills:
- With depth in some areas of specialisation, in known or changing contexts
- To transfer and apply theoretical concepts and/or technical and/or creative skills in a range of situations
- With personal responsibility and autonomy in performing complex technical operations with responsibility for own outputs in relation to broad parameters for quantity and quality
- With initiative and judgment to organise the work of self and others and plan, coordinate, and evaluate the work of teams within a broad but generally well-defined parameter
Career Outcomes
Students completing the Diploma of Business Information Systems can either gain entry-level employment with a multitude of employer organisations or obtain credit to complete the Bachelor of Business Information Systems and subsequently, the Master of Business Management or the Master of Business Administration at APIC, or the Master of Business and Project Management at APIC. Alternatively, graduates can seek entry with credit into a range of bachelor degree programs in a multitude of courses and programs in business information systems and allied disciplines. In short, completion of the Diploma of Business Information Systems can open up multiple opportunities to young graduates.
REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must have successfully completed:
- The equivalent to an Australian Year 12 at a recognised overseas institution with an equivalent minimum ATAR of 55; OR
- A Certificate IV or higher awarded by a recognised higher education/vocational institution; OR
- A General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A) with three or more D Grades; OR
- A Global Assessment Certificate with an average Grade of 55% or higher; OR
- An International Baccalaureate.
English language entry requirements
- IELTS Academic: overall band score of 5.5 or higher with no band below 5.0 in writing or speaking; OR
- IBT (Internet-based TOEFL): Overall score of 65 with a writing section minimum of 21 and speaking 18; OR
- Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): Total score of 169 or over and with no band below 162 in writing and speaking; OR
- Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): Total score of 169 or over and with no band below 162 in writing and speaking; OR
- PTE Academic Module with a minimum score of 50 with a writing and speaking minimum of 42.
Applicants who do not meet APIC’s English proficiency requirements can be made a conditional offer with a requirement to complete an approved intensive English language course and meet the required standard prior to their commencing their APIC award course.
