COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Master of Education (Coursework) for qualified teachers promotes the emergence of educational leaders across the independent, Catholic and public school systems.

Why enrol in the Master of Education?

The Sheridan Institute of Higher Education Master of Education (MEd) program promotes the emergence of educational leaders across the independent, Catholic and public school systems. Sheridan seeks to train leaders and emerging leaders who exemplify professional excellence, address the needs in their school community and can incorporate Christian perspectives into their personal and professional lives. Instruction takes place in a supportive environment that fosters intellectual inquiry, equips for professional practice and encourages servant leadership. Classes are run at the Sheridan city campus from 4.30pm-7.30pm to allow practising teachers to attend class.

The units on offer in the Master of Education are grouped into three thematic streams: Educational Studies, Educational Research and Educational Leadership and Management. Sheridan anticipates that the MEd program will be a catalyst for building capacity within each teacher’s school, stimulating new research that will lead to school improvement, and cultivating a {DQ}learning community{DQ} for both students and staff. Teachers are encouraged to consult with their Principal to ensure that their research projects align with the strategic plans of their school, supporting focused plans for student learning and school improvement that will minimise disruption and maximise the benefit to the learning community.

Graduate Certificate of Education

The Graduate Certificate of Education (GradCertEd) is a nested qualification within the Sheridan MEd. GradCertEd graduates who are subsequently accepted into the MEd program will receive full credit for the first six (6) months of their MEd course.
