A career in aged care can lead to a variety of managerial or leadership roles within the growing industry.
Known as one of the most rewarding career paths to follow, working in aged care allows you to make a true difference in the lives of the elderly. Something as small as helping them with their medications or simply being there as a confidant can have a massive impact into the lives of those you care for.
The Certificate IV in Ageing Support includes CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support, and also addresses the role of support workers who complete specialised tasks and functions in aged services.
These services can include residential, home, or community based environments.
The Certificate IV combines classroom training with on the job training by our highly qualified training staff. Students will be able to put into practice the skills that they have learnt in the classroom through placement at a registered aged care facility.

Workers will carry out activities related to maintaining an individual’s wellbeing through personal care and /or other activities for living and may provide services to individuals with complex needs, and/or work with groups of older people.
Study, Assessment Methods and Facilities
- The Certificate IV in Ageing Support will combine classroom training with on the job training by our highly qualified training staff. Students will be able to put into practice skills that they have learnt in classroom through placement at a registered Aged Care Facility. Excursions to Aged Care facilities, Trainer demonstrations on specific areas of Aged Care and guest speakers will enhance the learning experience. Resources and equipment used to train Students will be to industry standards.
- This course is delivered face-to-face, through a combination of tutorials and workshops. You will be assessed through written tests, assignments and work placements.
Work Placement
A critical component of the Certificate IV in Ageing Support is your work placement.
During placement, you’ll have the opportunity to put into practice your newly acquired skills, in a real-life aged care setting!
The Certificate IV includes 120 hours placement in an aged care facility, and Academia will help you source your training.
Career Pathway
Possible job roles include:
- Home care worker
- Personal care assistant
- Community support worker
Once qualified you are able to provide personal, holistic care to the elderly in various settings, which can encompass home and community care, residential aged care facilities, retirement villages and hospitals. This allows you to supervise and/or coordinate a limited number of other workers.
With this qualification, you may also be able to work independently within clearly defined organisation guidelines and service plans.

REQUIREMENTS
Year 11 or equivalent International qualification
Must be at least 18 years of age
English Language proficiency:
IELTS (General or Academic) – Overall 5.5
TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based) – 60
TOEFL Paper – 523 (with a min TWE 3.5)
TOEFL CBT (computer-Based) – 193 (with a min TWE 3.5)
PTE – Academic 36 with no communicative skill score less than 34
TOEIC – Total score 605 or higher
The Cambridge FCE, CAE or CPE – Pass with an average of 60% or higher.
