COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Operations stream of Academia’s Diploma of Hospitality Management includes a six-month placement of a paid or unpaid internship in the hospitality industry as part of the total 1.5 year course duration.
The Operation stream includes:
- Campus-based (non-kitchen) training for one year (two six-month semesters)
- One semester (six months) of training in various hospitality industry related work places
- Total course duration is 1.5 years (6 x 10-week terms)
Students can find their own placement through their part time work and own industry contacts during the first year of their program. Alternatively, Academia is happy to support you in finding an internship provider.
The Diploma of Hospitality Management is delivered face-to-face, through a combination of tutorials and workshops. You will be assessed through written tests, computer-based tasks, and assignments.

We offer internships to support our belief that the best learning outcomes are from practical, real industry-based work experience teamed with a strong academic foundation.
We believe that real training will help lead to real and rewarding job possibilities.
During the third semester of your studies, you’ll be required to find an industry-related internship in which you will gain real-life, hands-on experience in the exciting hospitality.
Academia can also help you source an internship, as we have many industry partnerships with 5-star establishments in both Brisbane and Melbourne.
Units of competency
To achieve the Diploma of Hospitality Management you must complete 13 core units and 15 electives (Electives have been selected by Academia to be relevant to the work outcome for this qualification. Electives will differ depending on which stream you are enrolled).
Career Pathways
After the successful completion of this course you can entry to SIT60316 Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management (Hospitality Stream).

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent as a manager in any hospitality functional area.
REQUIREMENTS
Year 11 or above (Victoria, Australia) or equivalent International qualification as recognized by the Department of Home Affairs
Must be at least 18 years of age
English Language proficiency:
IELTS (General or Academic) – Overall 5.5
TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based) – 60
TOEFL Paper – 523 (with a min TWE 3.5)
TOEFL CBT (computer-Based) – 193 (with a min TWE 3.5)
PTE – Academic 36 with no communicative skill score less than 34
TOEIC – Total score 605 or higher
The Cambridge FCE, CAE or CPE – Pass with an average of 60% or higher.
