COURSE DESCRIPTION
This qualification reflects the role of support workers who complete specialized tasks and functions in aged services; either in residential, home or community-based environments. Workers will take responsibility for their own outputs within defined organization guidelines and maintain quality service delivery through the development, facilitation and review of individualized service planning and delivery.
Workers may be required to demonstrate leadership and have limited responsibility for the organization and the quantity and quality of outputs of others within limited parameters.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.
Learner Characteristics and Target Group
Target groups for the CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support are international students who are:
- Seeking to pursue a career in ageing support
- Seeking to enter a new industry sector
- Seeking a pathway to higher-level qualifications.
- Characteristics of the target group are as follows:
International students from various countries who are seeking to develop their skills and knowledge in ageing support to further their career prospects or study pathways. Typically, these students will not have any work experience and are between 18 – 35.
Students may be onshore students currently based in Australia or offshore students applying from overseas. Most students speak English as a second language and must satisfy English language proficiency in order to successfully enrol into the course.
Course Outcome:
On successful completion of the course, students would receive Certificate IV in Ageing Support qualifications. Graduates would be able to provide support to older people at risk in a variety of organizational settings, recognize healthy body systems, manage legal and ethical compliance and ability to work with people with mental health issues.
Assessment Method
Assessments may include short written knowledge tests, discussions and oral communication demonstrations, case study exercises, written reports, web-based research and reports, final projects, and final written exams. To perform at your best, you will probably need to work on the assessments outside of class time.
Course Credit
Students may apply for recognition of existing qualifications or skills, knowledge and experience (credit transfer or recognition of prior learning). The granting of course credit may affect course fees, as well as the duration of the course.
Pathways:
Academic Pathways
Students who complete this course may wish to continue their education into the CHC52015 Diploma of Community Services and a range of other related community services qualifications.
Employment Pathways
Potential employment options are as a direct support worker in aged care, disability, home and community care or other direct care work in the community services industry.
REQUIREMENTS
• Be at least 18 years of age and have completed the equivalent of Year 12.
• Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs.
• Have an IELTS* score of 6.0 (test results must be no more than 2 years old) English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
• Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
• Completed at least 6 months of a Certificate III level course in an Australian RTO; or
• Successful completion of an English Placement Test
