You care about the wellbeing of those around you, and want to make a positive contribution to people’s lives. One in four Australians will meet the criteria for mental illness in a 12 month period, making this career path extremely important to the community (National Survey of Mental Health).
Our Bachelor of Psychological Science and Counselling gives you deep insight into why we think and act the way we do, what impact society has on our actions, and how to empower people to act differently. Included in this course is industry placement and counselling client contact, giving you the hands-on experience ACAP is known for.
This course is accredited by the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). It is also accredited by the Navitas Professional Institute (NPI) under its self-accrediting authority.

PATHWAYS FOR FUTURE STUDY
This specialised course gives you the skills to successfully explore a career in counselling and applied psychology. You are required to complete placement as part of your studies. Upon successful graduation you can practice as a professional counsellor.
It’s also the first three of six years training required if you want to work as a registered psychologist.
REQUIREMENTS
Meet one of the following criteria:
- Participate in a screening interview (typically by phone though online can be arranged if required); and
- Be 18 years or above at the date of commencement; or
- Completion of a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (or equivalent); or
- Completion of a Diploma or above (or equivalent); or
- Admission to an undergraduate degree at an Australian University (or equivalent)
Minimum English Language Requirements
Academic IELTS minimum overall band of 6.0 with no individual band below 5.5 completed in the last two years (or equivalent).
Overseas qualifications must be deemed by ACAP as equivalent to Australian qualifications.
EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION
The Australian College of Applied Psychology (ACAP) is an education provider, with four campuses in Australia- of which one is based in Melbourne, that has been teaching applied psychology over the last 30 years. ACAP covers a broad range of courses including counselling, psychology, case management, coaching, social science, social work and youth work. Its higher education counselling degrees are accredited by the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and its Psychology degrees are accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC).
