COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Diploma of Aviation – Instrument Rating will provide you with the skills and expertise to take off and land bigger aircraft using instrument operations in a variety of weather conditions.

The qualification is widely considered a minimum requirement for employment in the commercial aviation industry. On successful completion, you’ll also be awarded your Night VFR and Multi-Engine Aeroplane Instrument Endorsements.

After successful completion of this nationally recognised training course, you will receive a Diploma in Aviation – Instrument Rating as well as your CASA Instrument Rating. Students will generally complete 49 hours of flight training, with as much as 12.5 hours in our Diamond DA42NG twin engine aeroplane. The course also includes 5 hours night flying (real and simulated) and 21 hours in our Mechtronix DA40/42 Flight Training Device. You will also achieve additional endorsements including Night VRF Rating, Multi-Engine Aeroplane and 2D and 3D Instrument approach.

When it comes to practical guidance and theory, you’ll need to complete 24 hours of pre and post-flight briefs and 300+ hours of theory and self-study. You’ll also be required to pass several in-house exams and flight tests as well as the CASA IREX exam. All classes are led by our experienced flight instructors who will help you to achieve your goals. Class sizes are intentionally kept small to give you the best opportunity to learn.

If taken full-time, the AVI50519 Diploma of Aviation – Instrument Rating is generally completed in 16 weeks. Part-time study options are available if you only want your Instrument Rating without the Nationally Recognised Diploma. The course is conducted at our Port Macquarie campus at Port Macquarie Airport. All classrooms are modern and fitted with multi-media equipment for effective course delivery.

After successfully completing our Diploma of Aviation – Instrument Rating, you’ll be able to:

fly a multi-engine aircraft;
fly at night or through cloud;
advance your career as a pilot; and
add further ratings such as the Flight Instructor Rating to enhance your employment opportunities

AVI60219 – Advanced Diploma of Aviation (Pilot in Command)*

* These courses are currently not offered by AIAC.

REQUIREMENTS

Students must be over the of age 18 prior to their first day of study.

International students will need an overall International English Testing System (IELTS) score of at least 5.5, with no individual score lower than 5. Before flying solo, cadets will need to have any another assessment and meet International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Level 4 Operational English (Aviation) Standards.
