This course is targeted to students who have not flown before, and want a career as a commercial pilot.
Overview
This course is designed for students that have never flown before and wish to have a career in aviation as a pilot.
The course comprises of 10 Units of Study, each of 4 weeks in duration – and therefore takes 40 weeks to complete (plus scheduled holidays mid-winter and late December.
Students are enrolled in a Part 142 CASA Integrated Course (theory and practical flight training.)
Cessna and Piper aircraft are used, which are ideal in preparing students for their first jobs in aviation.
Most of the course occurs weekdays, however students will also conduct a fly-away, which can be to places like the Gold Coast or Uluru.
This Training and Assessment Strategy (TAS) is for the qualification;
AVI50222 – Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane).
REQUIREMENTS
The Pre-Requisites for the course are;
Student is over 18 years of age at the start of the course
Student holds a current Class 1 Australian Medical by the start of the course
Student has passed the Pilot Aptitude Screening Process* and has been made a firm offer of a place on the course.
Unless secondary school has been completed in Australia, the student has achieved an IELTS overall score of 6.5 or above, with no sub-score less than 6.0 (academic assessment)
Student satisfies the Academic Requirements** by the start of the course
Student holds an Aviation Security Identity Card (ASIC) by the start of the course.
Student has supplied Basair a Unique Student Identification (USI) number by the start of the course.
To meet academic requirements, applicants must satisfy one of the following;
Hold an Australian Year 12 Certificate, OR
Hold an IB Diploma, OR
Hold AQF Certificate IV or above (where the language of instruction was English), OR
Successfully complete at or above Exit level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) a Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment. The tool used for ensuring the assessment is valid and reliable is “LLN Robot”, an approved assessment tool provided by the College. The assessment may be conducted at any of Basair’s campuses and is facilitated by the Enrolment Officer (or their delegate) who is required to ensure the process is conducted with honesty and integrity. Results are provided to the applicant as soon as practicable after the assessment and the Secretary of the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations in the form, manner and by the time requested by the Secretary.
EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION
Basair Aviation College, Sydney, offers approved courses in flight training covering all license levels. Basair Aviation College has accredited courses validated by the Vocational Education and Training Board of the State of New South Wales. Certifications are done for Commercial licensing and for the Private level. About 20 kms south of central Sydney, is the Bankstown Airport that serves as the base for the Basair Aviation College and pilot training centre.The most cost-effective accommodation is the housing available in the Bankstown Airport area.
