COURSE DESCRIPTION
Biomedical science is the interface between science and medicine. It is the science of how the body works, what happens when it goes wrong – and why – and is the critical backbone of scientific developments and advances in medicine and healthcare.
The Bachelor of Biomedical Science is a broad-based degree designed to offer a pathway to medicine, allied health and scientific research degrees.
The program will develop your understanding of the molecular, cellular, anatomical, and physiological processes that occur in the human body.
You will be working in the laboratories right from your first week, analysing case studies and applying problem-solving techniques in a variety of clinical, research and allied healthcare settings. You will also develop important health communication skills.
Studying in small classes, you will have unrivalled access to the latest research equipment, learning under the supervision of our dedicated laboratory and research staff.
Bond’s Bachelor of Biomedical Science is provides a pathway to a career in medicine, physiotherapy, nutrition and dietetics, occupational therapy, healthcare innovations and medical research. With Bond’s three-semester-per-year accelerated timetable, you can complete the Bachelor of Biomedical Science in just two years with the opportunity to progress into our postgraduate health sciences programs. This is also the only pathway into the Medical Program for international students.
The Bachelor of Biomedical Science is a 2-year accelerated degree that provides you with the ideal undergraduate foundation for a career in the health sciences. The program develops your knowledge of the molecular, cellular, anatomical, and physiological processes of the human body and prepares you for graduate-entry programs such as medicine and the allied health professions. The program will develop your knowledge and laboratory skills across a range of disciplines, including anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, pharmacology, chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, and microbiology. Extensive laboratory training from the first semester, as well as case studies and problem-solving techniques, are applied within a variety of clinical, research, and allied healthcare settings. The program focuses on real-world learning, where you will gain exceptional, high-quality, practical experience in our health science laboratories. You will be able to develop and master technical-scientific and research skills using some of the latest research equipment from the very first semester. Due to Bond University’s small class sizes, you will be able to enjoy extensive use of this equipment to develop and refine your practical skills. The laboratories have dedicated laboratory staff to provide support and optimise your learning experience. An innovative feature of the program is the application of problem-based learning in the curriculum, a popular feature in medical programs that creates an engaging student learning experience to increase analytical reasoning and critical thinking skills.
Where will your degree take you?
Individuals with a Bachelor of Biomedical Science degree have many different career options. Graduates may wish to pursue further studies for a career in medicine to become a doctor, or allied health to become a physiotherapist or a dietitian, or to further your skills in scientific research.
Careers in biomedical science are often either research-oriented or laboratory-focused. After completing the Bachelor of Biomedical Science program, you could expect to find employment in a range of industry sectors including, but not limited to healthcare, pharmaceuticals, health services and medical devices.
