COURSE DESCRIPTION

Box Hill Institute has been a leader in Australian contemporary music education since 1981, offering one of the most diverse and dynamic music programs in the country.

This music course is designed to support emerging music professionals across all areas of the industry to be creative, work collaboratively, think innovatively, create content, generate income, and forge their own pathway into industry.

In the composition major you will learn skills in contemporary composition, composing for media and popular music, and using music software; you will have your compositions recorded by professional performers; and you will create a portfolio of work to launch your career in the music industry.

You will have access to:

classes designed and taught by current industry experts
world class recording studios
releasing music and artist development through our in-house record label
core units such as ‘Orchestration’ and ‘The Contemporary Composer’
advancement units such as ‘Music for the Moving Image’, and ‘Advanced Media Scoring’
elective units such as ‘Interactive Music and SFX for Games’

You will also have the option of choosing subjects from any other major study areas including: audio production, music business, music production, performance and songwriting.

Pathways & Accreditation

Successful completion will enable you to apply for entry to honours, postgraduate diploma and master’s courses at your chosen university.

This course is accredited by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) and the qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 7 and Box Hill Institute Graduate Attributes.

REQUIREMENTS

International students must have completed an Australian Year 12 or international equivalent with a pass.

PLEASE NOTE: Box Hill Institute only accept enrolments from international students who are 18 years of age or above at the time of course commencement.

A minimum IELTS overall score of 6.0 (Academic) with no band less than 5.5. A minimum TOEFL score of 550 for paper examination; 213 for computer based and 79 for internet based, or approved equivalent.

EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION

Box Hill Institute is an educational provider with three campuses in Australia- of which one is based in Melbourne- and was the ‘2016 Australian Large Training Provider of the Year’. The Institute offers courses that are pathways into a higher qualification either at Box Hill Institute or with its university partners. Students will also benefit from its modern facilities and its industry partnerships- which will help them work with industry, gain valuable hands-on experience, and broaden horizons through overseas projects. Box Hill Institute is home to approximately 40,000 students from diverse backgrounds. 85% of the Institute’s students are employed within 6 months of completing their study, and are found to earn a higher salary after graduating than university graduates.
