COURSE DESCRIPTION

This qualification reflects the role of highly skilled senior managers who use a broad range of hospitality skills combined with specialised managerial skills and substantial knowledge of the industry to coordinate hospitality operations. They operate with significant autonomy and are responsible for making strategic business management decisions. This qualification provides a pathway to work in any hospitality industry sector and for a diversity of employers including restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafes, and coffee shops. This qualification allows for multi-skilling and for specialisation in accommodation services, cookery, food and beverage and gaming.

Vocational Pathway

The next level of qualification up from an Advanced Diploma is an associate degree followed by a graduate certificate or a bachelor’s degree. If you want to step up your learning, you may want to apply for any of these once you’ve finished. i.e., Advanced Diploma of Travel and Tourism Management or Bachelors of Hospitality and Tourism Management

This qualification reflects the role of senior managers within the hospitality industry. This qualification provides a pathway to work in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops, or to run a business in these sectors. Possible job titles include:

  • Owner, Manager, General Manager, Chef, Sous Chef.

Possible Job Titles Include:

  • Manager/Owner/Chef (Small Restaurant or Cafe)
  • Executive Chef/Manager/General Manager/Food and Beverage Manager (Large Hotel)

Occupations

  • Chef Hotel Manager Resort Manager

REQUIREMENTS

For international students Brighton Institute of Technology has a requirement that all students must be over 18 years of age at the commencement of course.

To enter any courses at BIT, applicants should have successfully completed year 12 or secondary studies in applicant’s home country equivalent to Australian senior secondary school examination and or mature age (25 years or above) with a minimum of 2 years work experience in relevant field.

English Requirements

  • IELTS – Either a minimum IELTS test score of 6.0 or equivalent for direct entry into a VET course or IELTS 5.5 or its equivalent plus 14 weeks ELICOS to be taken before the main VET course. Or IELTS 5.0 or its equivalent plus 20 weeks ELICOS to be taken before the main VET course. Or Note: Results older than two years are not acceptable.
  • Cambridge C1 Advanced test – Minimum test score of 169, each component or 162 (Minimum Test Score where combined with at least 14 weeks ELICOS) or 154 (Minimum test score where combined with at least 20 weeks ELICOS)
  • TOEFL internet-based test – Minimum test score of 64 or 46 (Minimum Test Score where combined with at least 14 weeks ELICOS) or 35 (Minimum test score where combined with at least 20 weeks ELICOS)
  • Pearson Test of English Academic – Minimum test score of 50 or 42 (Minimum Test Score where combined with at least 14 weeks ELICOS) or 36 (Minimum test score where combined with at least 20 weeks ELICOS)

The Institute offers a wide range of vocational courses in Hospitality Management. Certificate programs are offered in the fields of Kitchen Operations and Commercial Cookery.
