COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Master of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) program prepares students for professional practice and for clinical registration endorsement. This Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited program has also been approved by The Australian Psychological Society College of Clinical Psychologists. All teaching staff are experienced clinicians who are committed to advancing the field of psychology through their own work and their interaction with students.
Students participate in supervised work placements and undertake qualitative or quantitative research into aspects of psychological interventions, such as the therapeutic process, experiences of clients and therapists, change processes, differing presenting issues and studies of treatment outcomes. Students also undertake course work units comprising of advanced study which is central to the practice of clinical psychology, as well as units of professional skills development and training.
Course Duration and Structure
This two year full time program consists of 200 credit points. Students undertake a total of 15 units of study consisting of eight coursework units (100 credit points or 50%), four placement units (50 credit points or 25%) and three research units (50 credit points or 25%).

- Gain the clinical skills to assess, diagnosis, and treat, various mental illnesses and conditions.
- Ability to conduct evidence based interventions with individuals, children, adolescents, families and groups.
- Gain the professional competencies required to conduct a range of psychometric assessments.
- Acquire the knowledge and skills to conduct applied research and evaluate programs in the discipline and practice of clinical psychology.
- Acquire the skills to investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts, and theories in clinical psychological practice.
Career Opportunities
Graduates may gain employment in community mental health centres, psychiatric hospital settings, specialist services for particular clinical groups, schools, post-secondary education, clinical rehabilitation services and private practice.
REQUIREMENTS
Applicants accepted into the program must have successfully completed a four year, or three year plus a fourth year, APAC accredited sequence in psychology within the last ten years with a minimum of an upper second class honours (75%) overall mark.
Students must be eligible for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia as a provisional psychologist.
An order-of-merit for entry will be prepared taking into account (a) academic record, (b) previous work experience and training, and (c) academic and professional referees’ reports.
International students, who do not otherwise meet the AHPRA English standards, are required to have a minimum score of 7.0 in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing and speaking) of the IELTS test, and a minimum overall band score of 7.
