COURSE DESCRIPTION

Masters by Research candidates undertake a program of research, under the direction of two or more supervisors. The candidates then communicate the results of this research in a thesis or another approved format. To facilitate their research and their career, candidates also need to complete additional training and other activities in line with the HDR Policy

Course structure

Masters by Research Candidates complete a research project, usually over 2 years. During this time, they must also complete

additional training around research integrity, research methods, communication, personal development, and career development

a research proposal and oral presentation to confirm their candidature

a second oral presentation midway through their candidature

a thesis, usually comprising 30,000 to 50,000 words

Accounting, Allied Health Sciences, Arts, Business, Communications and Design, Community Services and Social Work, Creative and Performing Arts, Education, Engineering, Exercise and Sport Science, Health, Humanitarian, Emergency and Disaster Management, Humanities and Social Sciences, Indigenous Knowledges, IT and Network Engineering, Languages and Linguistics, Law and Legal Studies, Nursing and Midwifery, Psychology, Public Health, Science, Environmental Science and Management.

REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible, you must have completed

the equivalent of half a semester of research activity at a postgraduate level and comparable levels of research, such as scholarly publications.

English language requirements

IELTS Academic Module: A minimum overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0.

Cambridge Advanced English (CAE): A minimum overall score of 176, with no skill below 169.

Common European Framework Certificate of English Proficiency: A minimum overall grade of C1, valid for three years from the date of the test to the date of commencement at CDU.

Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic module: A minimum overall score of 58 with no score lower than 50.

TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT): A minimum overall score of 79 with a minimum writing score of 21.
