COURSE DESCRIPTION

This double degree will augment your knowledge in geology, which remains critical to the global economy, with knowledge of resources and energy industries and finance.

The finance component explores the financial services industry. You’ll study areas in corporate finance and develop key understandings in investment, evaluation and the financial markets and their instruments. This will provide the ideal skill sets for analysing the economic viability of resources exploration projects.

What you’ll learn

  • Apply fundamental geological and financial principles and concepts in theoretical, practical and financial market situations
  • Solve resource exploration, environmental, sustainability and capital market problems through creative thinking and the extrapolation, interpolation and analysis of geoscience and financial information
  • Collate, synthesise, and visualise geoscientific and empirical data sets and conceptual information using digital technologies, and communicate this information to industry and community stakeholders concisely and accurately using written, visual, and verbal means appropriate to the situation.
  • Recognise the finite nature of Earth resources, and the need to manage and mitigate social, environmental and financial impacts of resource exploration and extraction and geohazards
  • Recognise and value environmental, indigenous and other community perspectives and acknowledge the need for sustainable use of earth resources in geological activities and in a commercial context
