COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a specialised foundation-level course aimed at graduates seeking taxation qualifications or wanting to continue their professional development.
The course can also benefit corporate accountants, financial planners and advisors, and members of the legal profession seeking a specialist taxation qualification.
You’ll explore the complexity of Australian taxation including the Income Tax Assessment Act and Regulations, Goods and Services Tax, Fringe Benefits Tax and the Tax Administration Act. You will learn how these Acts and regulations apply to the taxation regime in Australia.
You’ll attend guest lectures and events with leading tax professionals and tax organisations such as the Australian Taxation Office, Inspector General of Taxation and Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
You’ll also have the opportunity to work with experts and the community at the Curtin Tax Clinic and gain highly valuable practical work experience.
This is the first stage of Curtin’s modular taxation course. Completing Curtin’s Graduate Certificate in Taxation Practice makes you eligible for 100 credits towards the Master of Taxation.

What you’ll learn
Utilise specialist technical tax knowledge to solve tax issues relating to individuals and business in Australia.
Critically evaluate the financial and ethical implications of Australian Tax legislation, policy and practices
Gather and evaluate information necessary to taxation decision-making and procedural fairness
Disseminate accurate tax information to clients and other stakeholders, respecting confidentiality and professional ethics
Utilise computing and other technologies necessary for calculating tax liability and preparing tax documentation for individuals and businesses
Identify contemporary tax issues and practices and the potential for innovation and systems implementation

REQUIREMENTS
Applicants generally require a Bachelor Degree or equivalent credit gained for recognised learning. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.
Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): Grade C; and Pearson Test of English Academic: 58. IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System): Writing, Speaking, Reading, and Listening: 6.0; Overall band score: 6.5; TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): 79 Overall; Reading 13 Listening 13 Speaking 18 Writing 21.
