COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a trade qualification for carpenters in residential and commercial workplaces. It includes setting out, manufacturing, constructing, assembling, installing and repairing products made using timber and non-timber materials. Occupational titles may include: Carpenter – Commercial; Carpenter – Formwork; Carpenter – Residential State and territory jurisdictions may have different licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements. Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement. This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.
Purpose
The purpose of this program is to cover covers the essentials skills and knowledge required to commence your career as a qualified tradesman in the construction industry. Students develop specialist skills and knowledge to carry out carpentry tasks and processes interpretation, drafting, quantities take-off, estimating, scheduling, construction technology, occupational health and safety (OHS). Students also gain general skills in design, problem-solving, construction technology, project documentation and project administration, including quality assurance.
Pathways:
Once students have successfully completed CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry, they can work as a Carpenter within the residential and/or commercial construction industry. The further study pathways available to students who undertake this qualification include:
CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction
CPC40320 Certificate IV in Building Project Support
CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building)
CPC50320 Diploma of Building and Construction (Management)
Higher Education programs with other education providers within the Building and Construction sector, subject to meeting entry requirements of the intended qualification.
REQUIREMENTS
There is no pre-requisites or specific entry requirement for this qualification. This course is available to all international students and Datum College requires that students are able to provide evidence that they:
- Have demonstrated an IELTS level at a score of at least 6.0 or equivalent or demonstration of successful completion of at least General English at Advanced level or English for Academic Purposes at Advanced level.
- Successfully meets the requirements and satisfies the criteria of Genuine Student Test.
- Must have sound digital literacy and access to working internet and access to working PC or laptop with a configuration suitable to meet study requirements. Please seek your trainer/assessor assistance in this regard.
- Have a suitable level of language, literacy and numeracy to complete course requirements with or without additional support that the CRICOS provider is able to provide.
- Have successfully completed Australian year 12 or equivalent.
- Are at least at age of 18 on the date of course commencement.
