COURSE DESCRIPTION

Intended for education or therapy professionals to enhance their experience and understandings of the specific skills required to communicate with, teach, support and include individuals with complex communication needs.

Professionals who will benefit from specialisation content may be working in general or special education school settings or in community-based organisations that work with and support individuals with complex communication needs and their families.

Learning Outcomes

Transmit specialised knowledge, skills and ideas to audiences engaged in the education of students with complex communication needs.

Analyse complex problems to generate creative solutions for individuals with complex needs.

Critically analyse professional approaches to understanding and programming for behaviour, literacy instruction and creating communication accessible environments for individuals with complex communication needs within a diverse range of educative contexts.

Manage own learning within a collaborative learning environment.

This specialisation is intended for education or therapy professionals to enhance their experience and understandings of the specific skills required to communicate with, teach, support and include individuals with complex communication needs, whether in a regular classroom, special education facility or elsewhere in the wider community working with individuals that may have disability.

REQUIREMENTS

All applicants are required to have an initial teacher education qualification.

One or more of the specialisations in this course has admission requirements.

Academic admission requirements (Band 6) may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

Bachelor degree; or

Equivalent prior learning including at least five years relevant professional experience.

English competency requirements:

IELTS Academic: An overall band minimum score of 6.5, with no individual band less than 6.0.) (Results are typically valid for 2 years and online tests are not acceptable.)

TOEFL iBT: TOEFL iBT: 84 (with no score below 17)

TOEFL Paper-Based Test (PBT): Minimum score of 573, including Test of Written English of 5.0 or better. (Results are typically valid for only 2 years)

Pearson Test of English (PTE): PTE Academic 58, with no score less than 50 for postgraduate standard entry courses. (Results are typically valid for only 2 years)
