COURSE DESCRIPTION
This qualification reflects the role of individuals in a range of community settings and peoples’ homes, who provide support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work according to and may contribute to an individualised plan, and work without direct supervision. They may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.
Certificate IV in Disability Support equips individuals for roles such as Disability Support Worker, Personal Care Assistant and Community Care Worker. Completing this qualification can also pave the way for leadership positions and further studies in the health and community services sectors. Upon completing this course, students might consider pursuing the CHC52015 Diploma of Community Services or exploring other related community service Diplomas.
CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support is ideal for students who are:
• Seeking to pursue a career in providing individual support.
• Seeking to enter a new industry sector.
• Seeking a pathway to higher-level qualifications
Characteristics of the target group are as follows:
International students from various countries who are seeking to develop their skills and knowledge in ageing support to further their career prospects or study pathways.
Students will usually be new entrants. However, credit and/or RPL can be provided for those with existing skills and knowledge allowing such students to complete the course in a shorter timeframe.
Students may be onshore students currently based in Australia or offshore students applying from overseas. Most students speak English as a second language and must
satisfy English language proficiency to successfully enrol into the course.
Seven (7) core and three (3) elective units are required for the award of the CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support. Units have been selected in accordance with the packaging rules and are relevant to the work outcome, local industry requirements and qualification level.
REQUIREMENTS
Completion of:
CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
OR
Completion of: CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
OR
Completion of: CHC30408 Certificate III in Disability PLUS the CHCSS00125 Entry to Certificate IV in Disability Support Skill Set.
Eureka Institute of Management has the following entry requirements:
International students must:
• Be at least 18 years of age and have completed Year 12 or equivalent.
• Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs taking into account existing skills, knowledge and the experience.
• Have an IELTS* score of 5.5 (test results must be no more than 2 years old).
English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
>> Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country;
or
>> Successful completion of an English Placement Test
* Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted. Students are required to provide their results so that it can be confirmed they are equivalent to IELTS 5.5.
• Unique Student Identifier (USI)- every student must have a verified USI without which qualification will not be issued.
