COURSE DESCRIPTION

In a period when society and business have sought answers to unprecedented and rapidly escalating challenges, fundamental and applied research has provided answers. As a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous future evolves, research skills are ever more crucial in enabling society and business to innovate in response to political, economic, societal, technological and ecological change. In this context, HELI is proud to offer its newly accredited Master of Research.

The Heli Master of Research is specifically designed to develop the skills needed to design and conduct research in educational and professional settings in response to these challenging times. This course is offered face-to-face at HELI’s Melbourne Campus (for all International Students).

Course Learning Outcomes

The course learning outcomes for the Master of Research are:

Devise research problems and questions that respond to a gap in disciplinary theory or a real word challenge

Appraise philosophical framework to select research methods and designs that are congruent with research problems

Construct theoretical or best practice frameworks that form the basis of research projects based on existing theory or practice or both

Design ethically justified research projects employing appropriate research methods

Compose a research proposal, demonstrating the capacity to scope and design research projects independently

Develop original research, demonstrating the ability to conduct research projects independently

Defend research finding in a variety of academic and professional settings

Produce research outputs evidencing mastery

Career Outcomes

Suitable for students who want to develop their research capabilities and research practice. This course provides significant experience in planning and conducting research in the student’s chosen field. Graduates of this course will have gained experience of designing and conducting research in their chosen field or professional practice. Roles where these research skills are relevant include:

Operational, Marketing, Health, and general Industry Manager roles

Human Resources, Sales and Marketing, Business Analytics professionals

Federal, State and Local Government Officers involved in planning and conducting research

Education Sector Managers and Staff involved in research

Teachers, Academic Staff and Lecturers who wish to conduct research

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants for this course must provide evidence that they hold a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent or higher) in any discipline(subject to verification).

Applicants whose highest qualification was not delivered in English must demonstrate English equivalency by providing evidence of one of the following:

  • Academic IELTS: 6.5 or higher overall, with no band lower than 6.0; OR
  • IBT (Internet-based TOEFL): Overall score of 79 with a writing section minimum of 21 and speaking 18; OR
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): Overall score 180, writing and speaking 180; OR
  • Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): Overall 176 with a with a writing and speaking minimum score of 169; OR
  • PTE Academic Module with a minimum score of 58 with a writing and speaking section minimum of 50; OR
  • English For Academic Purposes Level 2 (EAP 2): Upper Intermediate ‘A’ grade or higher with IELTS 6.5 requirement.
