COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Overview

The Holmes Institute Bachelor of Business Degree is designed to provide students with the relevant knowledge in the major disciplines of business and the technical, communication and career management skills needed to succeed in a wide range of employment fields. The course is structured to provide a Bachelor-level degree qualification upon the completion of 24 units. Student can choose to focus their studies on one of three specialisations:

  • Management
  • Marketing
  • International Business

Graduates are encouraged to consider start up business opportunities in entrepreneurial ventures.

Course Structure

The Bachelor of Business is a three-year course, delivered over six trimesters on a full-time basis. To meet the requirements for graduation, all students must successfully complete 24 units.

The Bachelor of Business comprises 16 core units and 8 electives. Students can exit the Bachelor of Business after successfully completing the first-year units and be awarded the Diploma of Business Management qualification (DBM).

Qualification

On successful completion of this course, students are awarded the Bachelor of Business. The course meets the Australian Qualifications Framework specifications for a Level 7 bachelor degree.

Opportunities for Further Study

After successful completion of 24 units, graduates of this course are eligible to receive the Bachelor of Business which is recognised for entry to relevant Masters Degrees or other post-graduate qualifications in Australian institutions.

Assessment

Throughout the course, students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a competency to be deemed competent. Assessment methods in the course have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks.

Assessment will incorporate a variety of methods including assignments, journals, presentation, test and examinations. These tasks could be undertaken as an individual or group. Students are advised of the assessment requirements for a unit in the unit outline.

Course Learning Outcomes

The Bachelor of Business course is designed to provide students with a wide breadth of knowledge of different aspects of management and business. The course meets the Australian Qualifications Framework specifications for a Level 7 Bachelor degree.

Accordingly, the graduates of the Bachelor of Business will be able to:

Work successfully in both independent and group settings to evaluate, analyse and apply business theory and practice for real world business scenarios.
Effectively communicate independent insights and ideas, using verbal, written and visual modes, to a diverse range of stakeholders.
Contextualise and apply business knowledge in different environments reflecting various cultural, societal sustainable, ethical, economic and global perspectives.
Utilise a range of digitally based technologies to support decision making and to create solutions for business issues.

REQUIREMENTS

Successful completion of an Australian Year 12 (senior high school) or equivalent.

Overseas students must demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following means.

a) Successful completion of studies in English such as Year 12 at Australian High School or an Australian Diploma or higher qualification;

b) Successful studies at a recognised Australian educational institution at an equivalent study level based on at least a 50% pass rate in a recent semester of study;

c) An English test score using one of the following English language Tests as approved by Holmes:

An English test score with minimum requirements as follows:

• IELTS Overall 6.0 with no band score lower than 5.5; OR

• PTE Academic Score of 46; OR

• TOEFL iBT Score of 60-78; OR

• Cambridge English: Advanced from Cambridge ESOL (CAE) Score of 169, OR Equivalent as determined by Holmes English Placement Test
