COURSE DESCRIPTION
This qualification reflects the role of community services workers involved in the delivery, management and coordination of person-centred services to individuals, groups, and communities.
At this level, workers have specialised skills in community services and work autonomously within their scope of practice under broad directions from senior management. Workers support people to make change in their lives to improve personal and social wellbeing and may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers. They may also undertake case management and program coordination.
Course Delivery and Assessment
Students attend face to face classes for a minimum of 20 scheduled course contact hours per week. Students complete learning activities in class to prepare them for the summative assessments that follow at prescribed intervals.
Assessment methods include written questions, demonstration of skills, research, projects, and work placement.
Further study pathways
Students completing CHC52015 Diploma of Community Services (Case Management) can continue studying CHC62015 Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management or Bachelor Degrees in Social Work, Social Science, Community Welfare, Community Development.
Career Pathways
Post-graduate employment pathways is working in an aged care facility centre or a home care facility as an individual support worker. Occupational titles may include:
- case worker or manager
- community services worker
- early intervention worker
- family support worker
- welfare worker
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Age Requirement:
18 years or older at commencement of course.
Minimum Academic Requirement:
Completion of senior high school to the Australian Year 12 or equivalent
Minimum English Language Requirement:
An English Language proficiency level of one of the below:
- Cert III in EAL / Academic IELTS band score of 5.5 or equivalent
- Satisfactorily completed ELICOS at to at least Upper Intermediate level
- Completed equivalent of Australian Year 11 qualification from any of the English-speaking countries such as Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland
- Completion of any Australian AQF Certificate III or higher qualification
