COURSE DESCRIPTION
This qualification reflects the role of chefs and cooks who have a supervisory or team leading role in the kitchen. They operate independently or with limited guidance from others and use discretion to solve non-routine problems. This qualification provides a pathway to work in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, clubs, pubs, cafes, and coffee shops, or to run a small business in these sectors. The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards, and industry codes of practice.

This qualification includes 33 units of competency:
27 core units
6 elective units
Educational Pathways
On completion of SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management, students may undertake one or more of following qualifications:
- SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management.
- A range of other qualifications at Diploma level.
Employment Pathways
Students completing SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management can expect to gain work as a:
- Commercial cook in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops.
- Small business owner in these sectors.
- Chef and chef de partie.
REQUIREMENTS
Age Requirements
Students must be of 18 years of age to apply.
Students must be a minimum age of 18 years or above at the time of course commencement.
Academic Requirements
Satisfactory completion of Year 11 VCE or its equivalent overseas qualification.
Students must have completed the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or Equivalent) Students will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to ensure that they meet entry requirements and that they are enrolled in the units required to meet the packaging rules for SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management.
English Proficiency
International Students applying for this qualification must have a minimum English language proficiency of IELTS 6.0 or an equivalent exam result recognised by the Department of Home Affairs.
You must still take the IBM (VIC)’s pre-entry placement test at Orientation. It is used as a guide to determine the level of language, literacy and numeracy required for competent performance.
Other equivalent English language proficiency level is deemed one of the following:
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic): 50
