COURSE DESCRIPTION
IHM was awarded accreditation in 2019 to deliver the Entry Program for Internationally Qualified Registered Nurses (EPIQRN) bridging program. The new process for the bridging program shifted to OBA (Outcome-Based Assessment), and AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) will be in charge of conducting the two national examinations.
- NCLEX-RN examination (Same as in US and Canada)
- OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination)
IHM began offering the GCAN Australian Nursing Practice course with the goal of assisting IQNM’s (Internationally Qualified Nurses and Midwives) in acquiring the necessary knowledge as well as the necessary amount of hands-on experience to satisfy the AHPRA standards necessary for registration
Internationally qualified nurses and midwives (IQNMs) who complete the AHPRA Self-check and are advised to continue as Stream B candidates are those IQNMs who hold a qualification that is relevant to the profession but is not substantially equivalent or based on similar competencies to an approved qualification. IQNMs who are assigned to Stream B and must complete an Outcome Based Assessment (OBA) will benefit greatly from taking the GCAN Australian Nursing Practice course.
Career Option
- Gain work experience in Australian healthcare system as the program is offered under student visa scheme to assist with AHPRA registration process
- Gain full one-semester credit to Master of nursing course offered by IHM. Complete the Master of nursing in 1.5 years and gain stay-back up to three years
- Opportunity to work in various roles in nursing including teaching positions once gain registration with AHPRA
REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing – Australian Nursing Practice, an applicant is required to:
Have completed a Bachelor of Nursing degree or an equivalent qualification
Be an AHPRA registered nurse; or
Be a registered nurse with the Nurses’ Board/Council from the country of origin or place of residence
Registered Nurses having a three-year Diploma Of Nursing qualification and at least three years of experience as a registered nurse are eligible to enrol in this course.
English Requirement
- IELTS: Overall 6.5 and no band less than 6.0
- PTE: Overall 56 and no band less than 46
- OET: B for each test component
- Test of English as a Foreign Language – internet-based (TOEFL iBT) Including TOEFL iBT Home Edition – 79 (Listening 19, Speaking 19, Reading 18, Writing 22)
