The twin aims of high academic rigour and a clear Christian worldview make this a course capable of transforming your thinking and integrating a Christian worldview into your teaching practice. The Graduate Diploma of Education is an optional exit point from the Master of Education program. The Graduate Diploma of Education is not a teaching qualification.
Course Learning Outcomes
CLO 1 – Discipline Knowledge and Understanding
Critique. evaluate and synthesise educational theories and practice, including using research principles and methods applied to school and classroom practice which lead to a holistic and a Christian ethical approach in education.
CLO2 Christian Worldview
Evaluate how a biblical worldview informs different approaches to education.
CLO 3 Professional Practice
Critically reflect on and analyse educational concepts including 21st century capabilities, and apply these skills to educational practice and scholarship
CLO 4 Professional Practice
Evaluate the impact of social, religious, linguistic and cultural diversity on educational practice and the school community.
CLO 5 Effective Communication
Effectively communicate including using research skills to justify and interpret theoretical propositions to educators and non-educators.
CLO 6 Professional Learning
Address challenging situations in education with creativity, passion and initiative, drawing on both personal and collegial life-long learning including with professional bodies.
CLO 7 Effective Engagement
Evaluate and critically reflect on personal and professional educational practice to enhance the wellbeing of the educational community.
CLO 8 Research Skills
Apply research skills to new situations, including research and ethics design and literature review, to effectively plan, analyse, present and implement educational Innovation and change, with a high level of personal autonomy and accountability as an educator.
MASTER OF EDUCATION
To complete the Master of Education 96 credit points (cp) are required in total. Students can choose one of two pathways through the Course.
PATHWAY 1: COURSEWORK (8 UNITS)
Students must complete the two core units, EDE800 and ED801 (24 credit points) and select five electives (60 credit points) and complete the capstone unit, EDE940 (12 credit points). At least 50% of the units must be at AQF 9 (24 credit points).
PATHWAY 2: COURSEWORK (4 UNITS) AND RESEARCH (4 UNITS)
Students must complete the two core units, EDE800 and ED801 (24 credit points), two electives including at least one unit at AQF 9 (24 credit points), Research Methods in Education (12 credit points), Advanced Research Methods (12 credit points) and Research Thesis (24 credit points).
GRADUATE DIPLOMA OF EDUCATION
Students must complete at least one core unit (12 credit points) and three units of electives (36 credit points) with the exception of the research strand and capstone unit. Total 48 credit points.
REQUIREMENTS
A Master of Education/Graduate Diploma of Education applicant should be a qualified teacher with a four year qualification i.e Bachelor degree with a major in Education or a degree and a diploma /certificate in Education, and experience in teaching. Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in English. This would normally be equivalent to a minimum overall IELTS score of 7.0 with the minimum score in the reading and written component being 7.0.
