COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Master of Educational Leadership aims to equip and enable you to better fulfil your role as a Christian educator in leadership. Written from a Christian worldview each unit is designed to challenge and transform your thinking and practice in education. The course is offered on line with lecturers who are qualified and experienced Christian educators.

Course Learning Outcomes

AQF KNOWLEDGE

Critique, evaluate and synthesise theories and practice of educational and leadership theories leading to a holistic approach in educational leadership. (Leading improvement, innovation and change).

Critique and evaluate organizational leadership and management structures within an educational context, using research principles and methods. (Leading the management of the school)

Evaluate how a biblical worldview informs different approaches to education and educational leadership.

AQF Skills

Critically reflect on and analyse leadership concepts, and apply these skills to educational practice, 21st century literacies and scholarship (Developing self and others)

Evaluate the impact of social, religious, linguistic and cultural diversity on education and the school community. (Engaging and working with the community)

Effectively communicate including using research skills to justify and interpret theoretical propositions to educators and non-educators.

AQF Application of Knowledge and Skills

Address challenging situations with creativity, passion and initiative, drawing on both personal and collegial life-long learning including with professional bodies. (Developing self and others)

Evaluate and critically reflect on personal and professional educational leadership practice to enhance the wellbeing of the educational community.

Apply research skills to new situations, including research and ethics design and literature review, to effectively plan, analyse, present and implement educational Innovation and change with a high level of personal autonomy and accountability as an educational leader. (Leading, improvement, innovation and change).

COURSE PATHWAYS

To complete the Master of Educational Leadership, 96 credit points (cp) are required in total. Students can choose one of two pathways through the Course.

PATHWAY 1: COURSEWORK (8 UNITS)

Students complete three core units ED801, EDL804 and EDL905 (36 credit points), four elective units (48 credit points), at least two of which must be leadership electives, and the Capstone Unit, EDL940 (12 credit points). At least 50% of the total number of units (including EDL905 and EDL940) must be at AQF 9.

PATHWAY 2: COURSEWORK (4 UNITS) AND RESEARCH (4 UNITS)

Students complete three core units ED801, EDL804 and EDL905 (36 credit points), one unit from the leadership electives (12 credit points) and complete the two Research Methods units (24 credit points) and a Research Thesis (24 credit points).

REQUIREMENTS

Master of Educational Leadership applicants should have as a minimum an accredited three year Bachelor degree in any discipline together with a strategic role and experience in an education institution.

Applicants who first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in English. This would normally be equivalent to a minimum overall IELTS score of 7.0 with the minimum score in the reading and written component being 7.0.
