This course is designed for people with no or limited previous qualifications in finance and who wish to change career direction or enhance their career options. You will be introduced to managerial finance and economics, and move on to more advanced, practical studies in corporate finance, security analysis, portfolio management and trading and risk management.

This course is designed to extend your real-world finance knowledge and skills. You will be introduced to contemporary issues concerning the operation of capital markets and the interaction between these markets and other economic units such as business, households, financial institutions and governments.
In undertaking this study area you will acquire advanced technical knowledge and skill in financial products and markets, capital investments, equity and debt management, investments and risk management. You will develop relevant analytical skills along with an understanding of the economic factors influencing financial markets. You will exercise the skills of judgement and initiative for effective planning, problem solving and decision making in domestic and international business contexts.
Flexible delivery
Units in this postgraduate program are delivered using a mix of face-to-face, online and blended learning technologies. All course materials are placed online including course lecture materials, practical session guides, readings and help guides.
Careers and outcomes
You will graduate from the Master of Business (Applied Finance) with an understanding of the principles and practice of finance, and have substantial conceptual and applied finance knowledge. You will be prepared for careers such as an investment banker or equity analyst.
Early exit
Students may exit from the Master of Business (BS11) at the following stages, once those particular course requirements have been met:
- Graduate Diploma of Business (BS79) (Study Area A)
- Graduate Certificate in Business (BS39) (Study Area A).
