QUT’s School of Nursing has an established reputation as a provider of postgraduate nursing programs that recognise and respond to priorities in health care and prepare professionals for specialist and leadership positions.
In consultation with industry partners, the new Master of Nursing is designed to meet the needs of healthcare organisations for graduates who demonstrate nursing leadership and advanced practice skills. Graduates will have the ability to demonstrate leadership, autonomy, expert judgement, and adaptability to improve healthcare outcomes and service delivery models.
You will opt to major in one study area and will select a coursework or dissertation stream. You may also choose to complete a flexible program with no major and select electives from a wide list that includes the science of pharmacology, health statistics, dementia, and quality management in health.
This course offers a variety of career pathways for nurses working in diverse settings and provides opportunities for in-depth study for advanced competence in selected areas of nursing practice.
You will have the option to study either the Coursework Stream or the Dissertation Stream:
The Coursework Stream is recommended for nurses wishing to pursue a career as Nurse Unit Managers, Clinical Nurse Consultants, Directors of Nursing or Clinical Nurse Educators. Additional electives are available to students undertaking the Coursework Stream.
The Dissertation Stream is recommended for nurses wishing to pursue a career as Nurse Researchers, Nurse Academics or progress onto a PhD.

Careers and outcomes
The Master of Nursing prepares you for leadership roles in specialist areas of health care. Graduates will demonstrate leadership of teams, autonomy, expert judgement, and the agility to improve healthcare outcomes and service delivery models.
