COURSE DESCRIPTION
This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualized plan to provide person-centered support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centered support.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

CHCAGE001 – Facilitate the empowerment of older people
CHCAGE005 – Provide support to people living with dementia
CHCCCS011 – Meet personal support needs
HLTAID003 – Provide First Aid
BSBWHS302 – Apply knowledge of WHS legislation in the workplace
BSBWOR301 – Organise personal work priorities and development
Course Suitability
This course is directed at individuals from different cultural and academic who do not have any prior experience and seeking to work in the aged care sector.
Employment Pathway
This qualification provides the skills and knowledge to potentially gain employment as a:
- Client Assistant,
- Care Worker
- Home care assistant
- Residential Care Worker
- Residential Support Worker
- Senior Personal Care Assistant
Training Pathway
After achieving this qualification, individuals could progress to
- CHC43015 – Certificate IV in Ageing Support
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Age Requirement
18 years or older at commencement of course.
Minimum English Language Requirement
An English Language proficiency level of one of the below:
• Certificate III in EAL / IELTS band score of 5.5 or equivalent
• Satisfactorily completed ELICOS at to at least Upper Intermediate
level
• Completed equivalent of Australian Year 11 qualification from any of
the English speaking countries such as Australia, UK, USA, Canada,
New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland
• Completion of any Australian AQF Certificate III or higher qualification
• Satisfactorily completion of at least one semester of study in Australia
in a tertiary course (satisfactorily for this purpose would mean that the
applicant has completed 50% or more of the semester load)
• Completed a Placement Test devised and administered by Rhodes
College or a nominated accredited agency
Minimum Academic Qualification Requirement
Any one of the below:
• Completion of senior high school to
the Australian Year 11 or
equivalent
• Mature age students can also enter
based on an interview with Rhodes
College staff
