COURSE DESCRIPTION
This qualification provides the knowledge and skills for graduates to coordinate and maintain the work health and safety (WHS) program in an organisation. It reflects the role of practitioners who apply a substantial knowledge base and well-developed skills in a wide variety of WHS contexts. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
Students, currently employed, are encouraged to bring their current employer’s WHS policies and procedures (with their employer’s permission) to use in their course work. This material must be reviewed prior to use by the Institute’s Trainer/Assessor. For students who are unable to bring adequate policies and procedures, the Institute will provide a practice set of documents.

Course Structure:
BSBWHS522 – Manage WHS consultation and participation processes
BSBWHS513 – Lead WHS risk management
BSBWHS514 – Manage WHS compliance of contractors
BSBWHS519 – Lead the development and use of WHS risk management tools
BSBWHS515 – Lead initial response to and investigate WHS incidents
BSBWHS516 – Contribute to developing, implementing and maintaining an organisation’s WHS management system
BSBCMM411 – Make presentations
BSBSUS411 – Implement and monitor environmentally sustainable work practices
BSBWHS517 – Contribute to managing a WHS information system
BSBWHS520 – Manage implementation of emergency procedures
Modes of Delivery:
For International students: 20 hours classroom based training and 20 hours per week of self-study is required.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Age Requirement
18 years or older at commencement of course.
Minimum English Language Requirement
An English Language proficiency level of one of the below:
• Certificate III in EAL / IELTS band score of 5.5 or equivalent
• Satisfactorily completed ELICOS at to at least Upper Intermediate
level
• Completed equivalent of Australian Year 11 qualification from any of
the English speaking countries such as Australia, UK, USA, Canada,
New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland
• Completion of any Australian AQF Certificate III or higher qualification
• Satisfactorily completion of at least one semester of study in Australia
in a tertiary course (satisfactorily for this purpose would mean that the
applicant has completed 50% or more of the semester load)
• Completed a Placement Test devised and administered by Rhodes
College or a nominated accredited agency
Minimum Academic Qualification Requirement
All BSB41419 – Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety core units or equivalent competencies. Equivalent competencies are predecessors to the following units which have been mapped as equivalent. 1. BSBWHS412 – Assist with workplace compliance with WHS laws 2. BSBWHS413 – Contribute to implementation and maintenance of WHS consultation and participation processes 3. BSBWHS414 – Contribute to WHS risk management 4. BSBWHS415 – Contribute to implementing WHS management systems 5. BSBWHS416 – Contribute to workplace incident response And in addition to the above, any one of the below: • Completion of senior high school to the Australian Year 12 or equivalent • Mature age students can also enter based on an interview with Rhodes College staff.
