COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Master of Project Management (Information Technology) will develop your specialised theoretical knowledge and technical skills in project management. The courses in this program have been designed to enable you to develop and apply your advanced and specialised knowledge to a range of project management organisations and contexts within the information technology sector.

This program replicates industry and professional practice contexts and will equip you to work independently and effectively in multi disciplinary teams to achieve expert project and portfolio management. In doing so you will develop your knowledge of specialised areas within project management including procurement, client management, entrepreneurship, planning, digital innovation and scheduling.

The program emphasises the application of theoretical knowledge to practice and will develop your capacity to respond to current and emerging industry issues and trends. You will critically engage with project management theory and best practice principles, and evaluate and implement project management strategies as appropriate to the IT industry and organisational context.

Upon successful completion of this program you will be a professional practitioner with high level specialised knowledge of the project management field, specialising in the Information Technology industry. You will be able to assess and circumvent project risk, and utilise information technology management skills and strategy to respond to organisational issues and imperatives, and to diverse client needs. You will confidently lead others and provide expert and strategic advice to meet project deliverables and optimise project outcomes and success. You will be highly adept and experienced in collaborating with diverse project stakeholders and be able to research and interpret new developments to inform your expert advice and decision making. In preparation for professional and leadership roles in a variety of project management IT organisational contexts including small and large scale organisations, you will be able to perform a broad range of roles that project management entails, ranging from working on project teams to leading them.

Program Learning Outcomes Statement

The RMIT Master of Project Management (Information Technology) is designed to enable you to work as a highly skilled project manager who has the potential and knowledge to succeed in diverse organisations in the Information Technology sector. The program has a strong emphasis on project scoping, scheduling, procurement, entrepreneurship, client relationships, financial and technology management, digital innovation and research. A blend of lectures and seminars with industry case studies and work relevant projects allows you to combine theory and practice in a real work environment. The program develops both your generic and discipline specific capabilities through the expansion of knowledge and ideas that align with the current and emerging expectations of employers and industry.

As a graduate of this program you will be able to:

Analyse, synthesise and apply complex project management theory to address industry issues, and implement new directions in project management
Professionally communicate your ideas and strategy, justifying decision making to diverse project management and organisational stakeholders
Employ your knowledge of project management theory and recent industry developments to identify problems and formulate solutions that respond to the diverse needs of project stakeholders
Work autonomously and/or utilise effective team work skills to plan and develop specialised project management strategy appropriate to range of organisational contexts and projects
Critically examine and reflect on your work to question accepted interpretations, decision making and professional practice
