COURSE DESCRIPTION
RGIT’s Diploma of Counselling (CHC51015) will prepare you to work as a counsellor, who works with clients on personal and psychological issues using established counselling modalities. They use communication, micro-counselling and interviewing skills and draw on varied counselling therapies to assist clients.
Those who enroll in the CHC51015 – Diploma of Counselling Course are local and international students who wish to formally obtain a higher qualification in counselling and would like to enhance their skills and knowledge in counselling to enhance their educational and employment prospects.
This qualification reflects the role of counsellors, who work with clients on personal and psychological issues using established counselling modalities. They use communication, micro-counselling and interviewing skills and draw on varied counselling therapies to assist clients. At this level, the counsellor will be working in defined and supported counselling roles in established agencies rather than in independent practice.
No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Participants who exit this course at any time prior to completion will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units of competency they have successfully achieved. After completing students may undertake a range of related higher-level qualifications. For instance, after achieving CHC51015 – Diploma of Counselling, learners may undertake the following pathways:
CHC62015 – Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management
CHC81315 – Graduate Certificate in Career Development Practice
REQUIREMENTS
All learners must be at least 18 years of age or above.
Satisfactory completion of an equivalent Australian Year 11 or Certificate III or higher.
Learners who do not satisfy one of the above criteria and wish to apply to study a VET course, must provide evidence of one of the following:
IELTS General test score of 5.5 (or equivalent) for direct entry into the course
IELTS General score of 5.0 (or equivalent) with evidence of enrolment in an ELICOS course of at least 10 weeks’ duration taken before the VET course
IELTS General score of 4.5 (or equivalent) with evidence of enrolment in an ELICOS course of at least 20 weeks’ duration taken before the VET course
Completion of an ELICOS course exiting at the upper-intermediate level, or
Successful completion of RGIT’s language, literacy, and numeracy assessment.
Results older than two years are not accepted.
Acceptable equivalent test are TOEFL IBT, TOEFL PBT, PTE Academic, Cambridge English Advanced (CAE)
