COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Diploma of Automotive Technology prepares new employees or recognizes and develops existing workers who are performing advanced diagnosis and design tasks in the automotive industry.

Job roles related to this qualification include:

  • Advanced diagnostic technician
  • Automotive system designer

COURSE DURATION
The course is delivered over 26 weeks on a full time basis. It is divided 2 terms including 100 hours of field placement.

VOCATIONAL PLACEMENT
Students are required to undertake 100 hours of supervised field placement which provides an excellent opportunity to further improve their practical job skills. Sheffield organises workplacement on a non-paid basis.

AURETE001 Analyse and evaluate electrical and electronic faults in engine management system

AURETA002 Analyse and evaluate electrical and electronic faults in body management systems

AURETX001 Analyse and evaluate electrical and electronic faults in driveline management systems

AURLTB002 Analyse and evaluate faults in light vehicle braking systems

AURLTD007 Analyse and evaluate faults in light vehicle steering and suspension systems

AURLTE003 Analyse and evaluate faults in light vehicle engine and fuel systems

AURLTQ003 Analyse and evaluate faults in light vehicle transmission and driveline systems

AURTNA001 Estimate and quote automotive vehicle or machinery modifications

AURTTA022 Develop and apply mechanical system modifications

BSBWHS521 Ensure a safe workplace for a work area

The units of competency may change any time without prior notice to suit packaging requirements.

REQUIREMENTS

Those undertaking this course are required to have completed AUR40216 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis or be able to demonstrate equivalent competency. International students must be of 18 years of age and possess an IELTS overall band score of 5.5 or equivalent. Those who do not meet the minimum IELTS requirement will be referred to an accredited English Language Training provider to undertake an English course prior to commencing the qualification.
