COURSE DESCRIPTION

This qualification reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. They support children’s wellbeing, and development in the context of an approved learning framework. Educators use a range of well developed skills and knowledge using discretion and judgment when carrying out their work in the context of established policies and procedures. They may work independently or under the guidance of others, though in some contexts that guidance may not be on-site. Early childhood educators work in long day care centres, family day care, pre-schools or kindergarten

Further Study Pathways

After achieving this Certificate III qualification, individuals may continue their studies in CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care

Employment Opportunities

This course may provide employment opportunities in centre-based care, occasional care, out of school hour’s care and family day care. Job roles include:

  • Early childhood educator
  • Playgroup supervisor
  • Family day care worker
  • Nanny
  • Childhood Education Assistant

REQUIREMENTS

To ensure an appropriate learning opportunity, candidates need to demonstrate a capacity to undertake study at

a certificate III level, this can be demonstrated via the following:

Aged 18 years or above, and

Must have completed Year 12 or equivalent

Minimum English level of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. Candidates originating from student visa assessment levels 1 and 2 without the required IELTS score can undertake Language, Literacy and Numeracy Indicator Test (against the ACSF).

Moderate level of computer literacy required

Evidence of full COVID-19 immunisation with the TGA approved vaccine

Be physically fit, enjoy being with children, have patience, understanding, energy, adaptability and a willingness to take responsibility

Additional Requirements prior to work placement

A National Police Check (NPC)

A Working with Children Check (WWCC)

Vaccinations which can include COVID, hepatitis A and B, and influenza

Any additional evidence your work placement provider requires

Hold or undertake (SA ONLY):

Disability services employment screening

Vulnerable person-related employment screening

Aged care sector employment screening

Applicable from 19/01/2024, all applicants who have received an offer or Coe prior to this date are accepted with the previous entry requirements.
