The Associate Degree of Engineering is a broad-based point of entry into employment as an associate engineer and offers students the chance to move into study at undergraduate level.
Students complete a combination of undergraduate and vocational units. Undergraduate units are the same as those taught in Bachelor of Engineering degrees, but this course offers smaller class sizes and more contact hours to provide students with more individual support.
Course description
The Swinburne Associate Degree of Engineering is designed to prepare students for the profession as a para-professional engineer, as well as provide a pathway for graduates to articulate into a four-year undergraduate engineering degree course. The two-year Associate Degree of Engineering contains two years of Engineering units and ensures that it is a valuable qualification for employment as ‘Engineering Officer’ or ‘Associate Engineer’.

REQUIREMENTS
Completion of Australian Year 12 or equivalent.
English language requirements
Satisfactory completion of one of the following:
- Swinburne’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP 5 Advanced level) with overall 65%, all skills 65%
- minimum IELTS overall band of 6.0 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 6.0
- TOEFL iBT (internet-based) – 64 (no less than 13 in reading, 12 in listening, 18 in speaking, 21 in writing)
- Pearson (PTE) minimum score of 50 (no communicative skills less than 50)
- C1 Advanced: 169, no band less than 169
- any other equivalent assessment of English language proficiency.
