Your major
Explore how mathematical and numerical methods deepen our understanding of real-world phenomena and behaviours with the Applied Mathematics major. You’ll make sense of big data by broadening your understanding of mathematical and numerical methods. Plus, learn to model fundamental processes in physical and life sciences.

REQUIREMENTS
Successful completion of a Year 12 qualification undertaken in Australia, such as the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), International Baccalaureate or interstate Year 12 equivalent. Non-Year 12 qualifications, Foundation Year and qualifications undertaken overseas will not be accepted.
Entry requirements vary depending on the course students choose.
English language requirements
Satisfactory completion of one of the following:
- Swinburne’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP 5 Advanced level) with overall 70%, all skills 65%
- minimum IELTS overall band of 6.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 6.0
- TOEFL iBT (internet-based) minimum score of 79 with a reading band no less than 18 and writing band no less than 20
- Pearson (PTE) minimum score of 58 (no communicative skills less than 50)
- TOEFL iBT (internet-based) – 64 (no less than 13 in reading, 12 in listening, 18 in speaking, 21 in writing)
- Pearson (PTE) minimum score of 50 (no communicative skills less than 50)
- C1 Advanced: 169, no band less than 169
- any other equivalent assessment of English language proficiency.
