COURSE DESCRIPTION
Overview
This is a trade qualification for carpenters in residential and commercial workplaces. It includes setting out, manufacturing, constructing, assembling, installing and repairing products made using timber and non-timber materials.
Occupational titles may include:
· Carpenter – Commercial
· Carpenter – Formwork
· Carpenter – Residential
State and territory jurisdictions may have different licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.
Course Outcome
Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.
This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.

Students who complete this course may wish to further their study into the Certificate IV in Building and Construction.
Career Pathway:
Possible job roles relevant to this qualification may include:

REQUIREMENTS
A learner must:
Be at least 18 years of age.
Have completed at least the equivalent of year 12 education.
Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs.
Participate in an LLN (Language, Literacy and Numeracy) assessment*, if applicable, to determine and demonstrate their readiness and learning capacity to undertake their desired course.
Have an overall IELTS** score of 6.0 with no individual band score of less than 5.5 (test results must be not more than two (2) years old). English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
the student was educated in an English-speaking country for at least five (5) years; or
the student has completed at least six (6) months of a minimum of AQF level 3 course or higher in an Australian RTO within the last two (2) years; or
the student has successfully completed an English Placement Test at SCCM.
