COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Description

The Dilpoma in Community Service is designed to build your skills, knowledge and understanding to work as a professional community services worker. The community service may include areas such as, mental health, homelessness, family and domestic violence, child protection, employment support, and migrant services. This course will enhance your existing knowledge in direct service work and client support so that you can make a genuine difference in people’s lives and communities.

You will learn to develop and implement programs and services that meet various needs of individuals and families. You will be trained to take a holistic approach by developing practical knowledge of working with a diverse range of people, using a case management approach. You will also learn other valuable skills such as advocacy, counselling and group work. The qualification requires that students must have undertaken 120 hours of work to successfully complete the course.

On graduation, you will work in the roles of community services, case management and social housing workers involved in the managing, co-ordinating and/or delivering of people-centred services to individuals, families and communities.

Trainer/Assessor will employ a range of assessment tools to gather sufficient and quality evidence about student performance in order to make the assessment decision based on the qualification training and assessment strategy. Assessment evidence may include but not limited to:

  • Role-play
  • Project Work
  • Group and individual submissions
  • Portfolio
  • Case study
  • Presentation
  • Reflective journal
  • Written tests
  • Oral tests
  • Knowledge tests

Study Pathway

Students who complete this course may wish to continue their education into CHC62015 Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management or higher education qualification in community services.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Be at least 18 years of age and have completed the equivalent of Year 12.
  • Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs.
  • Have an IELTS* score of 5.5 (test results must be no more than 2 years old). English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
    • Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
    • Completed at least 6 months of a Certificate IV level course in an Australian RTO; or
    • Successful completion of an English Placement Test

*Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted. Students are required to provide their results so that it can be confirmed they are equivalent to IELTS 5.5.
