Build your career in Early Childhood Education and Care and gain the specialised skills and knowledge you need to work as a Diploma level educator.
This qualification is suitable for people who are interested in progressing their career in the Early Childhood Education and Care sector and wish to gain the knowledge and skills required to design and implement curriculum in Early Childhood Education and Care services.
Our experienced teachers will teach you to work within the requirements of the National Quality Framework to implement the approved learning framework and support children’s wellbeing, learning and overall development. You’ll learn how to plan and implement programs that support children to learn through play in a safe and supported environment, as well as ensuring the health and safety of children in your care and maintaining compliance in other areas of service operations.
As part of the course, you will learn about embedding sustainability and environmental responsibility within the curriculum and the operation of the service. You will learn about supporting children to interact positively and respectfully with others and how to implement strategies to support the inclusion of all children using a strengths-based approach.
As part of the course, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in 280 hours (minimum) work placement in a regulated early childhood education and care environment. You will get hands-on experience in using an approved learning framework to guide your practice, and the chance to work in partnership with families and build relationships to provide appropriate education and care for their children.
In your role you may begin to have responsibility for the supervision and guidance of volunteers and other educators. The course will look at aspects of leadership such as managing your team’s effectiveness and developing your own emotional intelligence and reflective practice which will assist you to work effectively with others.
On successful completion of this course, you will have the skills and knowledge you need to seek employment as an Educator in a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care setting, including long day care, outside school hours care, family day care or in-home care.
You will also be prepared for roles in which you are expected to take on responsibility for other staff and may enable you to work as a room leader, an educational leader or in a management role in an early childhood education and care setting. You will also be well-placed to build on your skills and knowledge and undertake further study at university and undertake a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood).

REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must:
hold a CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or
CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
For entry, applicants must show evidence that they have a Registered Working with Vulnerable People Card (RWVP) or a receipt that the applicant has applied for a RWVP card. A RWVP card is a requirement of the National Quality Framework Regulations for Early Education environments (if a receipt is used as evidence the card must be shown as evidence prior to stating the course).
Academic requirements
To meet academic requirements for Diploma or Advanced Diploma courses, you need to successfully complete any TasTAFE course entry procedures and you also need to:
Have completed year 12 and provide TasTAFE with a copy of your Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education awarded to you by an agency or authority of a State or Territory; OR,
Provide TasTAFE with a copy of a qualification at Level 4 or above in the Australian Qualifications Framework that was awarded to you. This qualification must have been delivered in English; OR,
Complete an approved language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) assessment and display competence at or above Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) in both literacy and numeracy.
