COURSE DESCRIPTION
If you have strong customer service skills and a keen interest in the Tourism industry, this qualification will provide you with the skills you need to work in your tourism field of choice.
This qualification is ideal if you are looking to gain employment in the Tourism industry sector and allows for multi-skilling and specialisation in roles that involve planning and coordinating a range of tourism services, or more hands-on customer facing roles in the delivery of our unique tourism products.
During the Certificate III course you will have the opportunity to engage with industry employers and an enthusiastic and supportive alumni network, and experience first hand the Tasmanian tourism offering.
This course is offered as an on-campus program at Drysdale Hobart and Devonport and is also available in the workplace for new and existing workers within the tourism industry. If completing as an apprentice/trainee or workplace-based student, your training will consist of a combination of on-the-job training, off-the-job workshops and self-paced study.
In this course, you will gain valuable skills to work for tourism businesses and operators of varying sizes, inbound tour operators, visitor information centres, a range of visitor/tourist attractions, cultural and heritage sites and/or any other tourism-related business.
This course will provide you with the opportunity to gain an in-depth view of the Tourism industry, giving you valuable experience in sourcing and using information on the Tourism and Travel industry and an understanding of how the industry is structured.
Insights and skills around providing high quality customer service, information and assistance to customers, and visitor information are key to the course, as is learning the importance of working effectively with others.
You will also learn how to participate in safe work practices, as well as show social and cultural sensitivity –an important skill to have if you are looking to work in the Tourism industry.
Electives will include providing responsible service of alcohol, and the provision of first aid, as these important regulated skills are useful across a range of customer orientated tourism roles. Providing advice on Australian destinations alongside the key principles of how to source and present information to visitors and tourists alike will be highlighted, and training provided in how best to operate the myriads of online information systems available to access in the tourism industry.
Other electives cover things like providing a briefing or scripted commentary, using social media in a business, and participating in environmentally sustainable work practices – a key focus for many in the tourism industry. Please contact us to find out what specific electives are offered in your region.
On successful completion of this course, you will have a range of skills to seek employment in a diverse array of tourism operations, either in an office-based role planning and coordinating tourism services, or in a role based ‘in the field’ where products are delivered.
