The Australian National University provides MPhil candidates with a vibrant research community and outstanding program support. When selecting a research program, an institution’s reputation is everything. ANU is one of the world’s leading universities, and the smart choice for your research program. As an MPhil candidate you will work with increased independence, under the direction of a supervisory panel of experts in the field. Your research will make an original and important contribution to human knowledge, research and development.
An MPhil in science communication is an essential pathway for candidates pursuing an academic career in this discipline. In addition, a well-crafted MPhil can provide a significant stepping stone to other areas of employment such as communication analysis, policy development, and industry.
Here at CPAS, we invite applications from suitably qualified candidates (details below) who are interested in undertaking an MPhil in Science Communication across a range of themes and topics including, but not limited to:
Climate change communication
Science, media and the public
Intersections between science and art (artistic research)
Ethics of science communication
Intersectional issues in STEM (with a focus on gender)
Communicating about health issues
Science and Technology Studies (STS)

Intersection of environmental science, policy and politics

REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must:
1. Present a relevant Bachelor Honours degree or international equivalent
- With a minimum Second Class Honours – Upper (H2A);
- or an equivalent combination of qualifications, research publications and/or professional experience related to the field of study.
2. Have the written approval of an identified supervisor for the research project/thesis.
3. Provide:
- A detailed research proposal outlining your intended research, (applicants should seek guidance from the potential supervisor regarding length and content);
- Original evidence of all relevant academic qualifications including academic transcripts and graduation documentation (with English translation as appropriate);
- An up-to-date CV including academic qualifications, work experience and research publications.
- At least two academic referee reports;
English Language Requirements
IELTS Academic and IELTS UKVI Academic [excluding One Skill Retake and IELTS Online] – Overall score of 6.5 overall with minimum 6.0 in each band.
TOEFL iBT Paper Edition and TOEFL iBT [excluding Paper Edition and Home Edition] – Overall score of 80 (Reading – 20; Writing – 20; Listening – 18; Speaking – 18).
Cambridge C1 Advanced – Overall score of 176 minimum 169 in each band.
PTE Academic and PTE Academic UKVI [excluding PTE Academic Online] – Overall score of 64 minimum 55 in each band.
