COURSE DESCRIPTION

Mining engineers work with all aspects of ore extraction and processing. They gather valuable minerals and metals which enable the products and technologies that form the backbone of our society.

Our Graduate Diploma in Engineering (Mining) is suited to engineering graduates and working engineers with relevant experience.

What will you do?

The program acts as a foundational year for the Master of Engineering (Mining). It’s designed to upskill students for advanced studies and career opportunities. You will:

study geomechanics, geotechnical engineering and geostatistics
build skills in mine design, modelling, simulation and mine automation
conduct risk and uncertainty analyses
explore mine management, planning and sustainable practices
develop skills for research, communication, critical thinking, business and management.

Career Readiness

Mining engineers can enjoy highly lucrative careers. Graduates can practise as geotechnical engineers, environmental engineers, drilling and blast engineers, ventilation engineers, mine planning engineers.

They are involved in mine design, mining systems, geology/resource estimation, geotechnical/rock mechanics, mine ventilation, mining economics, management and finance.
