COURSE DESCRIPTION
Procurement, contracting, and commissioning are cornerstones of public service delivery, and procurement professionals need a range of tools and frameworks to be more strategic, achieve better outcomes, and create a broad range of value. This Melbourne MicroCert is ideal for procurement professionals in government and the private sector who are seeking key concepts, frameworks and skills for implementing a more strategic approach to procurement and service delivery that incorporates social and sustainable procurement goals. Delivered by leading experts in public procurement, this course has been designed to ensure learning meets the real-world needs of the sector. Investigate key aspects of public procurement: Review core public procurement systems, such as risk, supply markets, and government objectives. You’ll work with your peers to identify key challenges when procuring for the public sector, and pinpoint innovative solutions that deliver social value to communities. Explore stakeholder relationship management: Gain essential skills to engage and leverage key stakeholders in your procurement ecosystem. Understand how to communicate the value of sustainable procurement to your networks, including suppliers, social enterprises, and communities. You’ll learn how to build and manage supplier relationships to improve outcomes delivered between suppliers and buyers. Apply your new knowledge to a public procurement process: Develop a short policy brief that evaluates a key procurement process and makes actionable recommendations based on your own independent research. Present your brief to your peers and receive expert feedback from your course facilitator.
Skills and learning outcomes: By the end of this course, you’ll have a deeper understanding of how governments can generate social value through sustainable practices in procurement, commissioning, and contracting. You’ll be able to: Identify and examine the key elements of public procurement that underpin a strategic, innovative approach focused on impact and value creation. Reflect on your own practice and evaluate how you can manage procurement in different ways to create value. Apply tools, frameworks, and theories to synthesise complex information and make recommendations for a more strategic approach to public procurement in practice.
