Data is a crucial tool in today’s workplaces – but it can often be skewed in ways that reinforce gender biases. This Melbourne MicroCert is ideal for professionals from any sector seeking the tools to understand how data can hold inherent bias, and how this impacts organisational decision making. Explore the nexus of gender and technology: Drawing on social science perspectives, you’ll explore the intrinsic gender inequalities that exist within our broader society. Consider how these are reflected in AI and other technologies. Understand how data influences workplace decision making: Recognise data’s value in the workplace, and consider how it can be applied to drive effective decision making. Examine how gender bias and discrimination can be embedded within data and tech used by organisations, and explore the unintended impacts this may have. Discover the tools to identify biases in data: Understand how gender bias can be reinforced during data collection, analysis and interpretation. Gain a critical framework to assess the quality of data and its sources, to identify potential bias. Apply your knowledge to your own workplace: Putting your new knowledge into practice, you’ll examine how data is used in your own organisation. You’ll demonstrate how to identify the potential bias that exists within it, and consider how to make more gender-inclusive data-driven decisions.

You’ll be able to: Critically evaluate gender bias and discrimination in AI and data used in workplace contexts; Critically analyse ethical implications arising with the use of data; Identify and evaluate diverse data used in various workplace contexts.
