COURSE DESCRIPTION

Effective business processes allow organisations to be more efficient, agile, and able to respond quickly to ever-changing customer needs. This micro-credential is ideal for professionals, managers, and business owners seeking a deeper understanding of the state-of-the-art tools and techniques used to document, analyse, and optimise business processes within an organisation. Designed to give you essential practical experience, Process Thinking and Improvement has been co-designed with Telstra, Australia’s leading telecommunications company. Learning in this course is equivalent to Level 9 of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Understand the key elements of business process modelling: Learn to identify clear starting and end points to your business processes. You’ll explore the key elements in process modelling including triggers, inputs & outputs, as well as customer expectations to ensure your organisation achieves its strategic goals. Learn the essentials of business process documentation: Better understand your organisation’s processes by documenting them in a process architecture that will facilitate the selection of processes for improvement initiatives. You’ll use the American Productivity and Quality Center (APQC) framework as a guideline to identify and classify your organisation’s processes in a process architecture. Explore fundamental process analysis & redesign methods: Draw from proven methodologies, such as Lean, Six Sigma, and operations management to confidently detect process issues and their root causes in your organisation. Understand when, how, and which redesign technique to use so process improvements align perfectly with your business management objectives. Design your own business process models: Use industry-recognised software to build and implement user-friendly process models. Explore the principles of process modelling language, and gain the skills needed to develop visual representations that describe complex business processes for stakeholders. Gain essential practical experience in business process redesign; Analyse a ‘real-world’ organisation’s business process and draw on your new knowledge to identify one major issue. You’ll work in a team to solve the problem and redesign the business process, gaining valuable practical experience that will enhance your career options.

Skills and learning outcomes: By the end of this micro-credential, you will be able to: Analyse business documentation to identify, organise and model business processes at different levels of abstraction using contemporary methodologies and process modelling techniques; Apply qualitative and quantitative process analysis techniques to identify opportunities for process improvement via process redesign and justify recommendations.
